What it is
The shadcn/ui Pro MCP server is a remote Model Context Protocol server at https://pro.shadcn.co/api/mcp. Once your editor is connected, its agent stops guessing what a block looks like or how it is installed: it searches the live registry, reads the real install command, usage snippet and source, plans whole pages as stacks of blocks, applies themes and finds icons.
It is included with every Pro plan. Authentication is your license key, the same one the shadcn CLI uses.
What the agent gets
- Blocks: every Pro block in 27 categories (hero, pricing, FAQ, sidebars, dashboards, dialogs, tables, sign in, ...), searchable by what the section does.
- Install: the exact
shadcn addcommand for npm, pnpm, yarn or bun, with the shadcn/ui components and npm packages each block pulls in. - Pages:
plan_pageturns "a landing page for an analytics SaaS" into an ordered stack of blocks, one install command and a page skeleton. - Themes: the 24 Pro themes as
globals.cssvariables or a shadcn preset code. - Figma: the location of any component in the Pro Figma kit, for handoff or for the Figma MCP.
- Icons: search across the icon sets shadcn/ui projects use and get real imports.
- Guides and prompts: short playbooks for setup, adding a block, building a page, theming and troubleshooting, also exposed as slash-command prompts in clients that support them.
See the tool reference for every tool with a sample call.
How it compares to the official shadcn MCP
The official shadcn MCP (npx shadcn@latest mcp) knows the public shadcn/ui registry and any registry you add to components.json. The Pro server adds what the CLI registry cannot express: ranked search over block descriptions, page planning, usage snippets, themes, Figma links, icons and account tools, and it answers from the live Pro catalog without a local setup. Use both: the official server for base components, this one for Pro blocks and pages.
